West Gulf Blockading Squadron
1861-1865
This site primary focus is the ordinary sailors and marines who were attached to the West Gulf Blockading Squadron or its predecessor or successor squadrons between the day the Pensacola Navy Yard was surrendered on 12 January 1861 and the formal close of the Civil War in 1866 and never went home. Many were either buried at sea or ashore in graves long since lost to time and the weather.
