USS A. Houghton
The USS A. Houghton was a 326 ton bark that was purchased by the Navy on 12 October 1861 and commissioned 19 February 1862, Acting Master Newell Graham commanding.
The A. Houghton was assigned to the David Porter's Mortar Flotilla within the West Gulf Blockading Squadron and in that capacity participated in the battle of Forts Jackson and St. Philip and the fall of New Orleans, & the attack on Vicksburg. Afterwards, she was homeported at the Pensacola Navy Yard as an ammunition ship until March 1863 when she was reassigned to the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron.
